Frank and Cyrus
Hello everyone:
I thought I would drop in and just let everyone know what I'm up to these days.
Currently, I have plans for a few more books, including a third in the Darkness series and a possible children's book, but at the moment...
I'm pursuing writing and directing motion pictures. I've signed up for some classes, I've visited some movie sets and talked to some producers and directors, I've been reading lots of books and learning how to direct and edit, Barb and I have put in a media room in our basement where we watch movies, edit video, store our camera stuff, and where I'm now doing most of my writing.
Current project: a screenplay adaptation of Monster. It's been quite a learning experience and very exciting, and there are folks out there who are interested in doing the film and letting me write and direct.
I started out dreaming of making movies. I even attended UCLA for awhile hoping to get into the film school -- I diverted from that goal to help my dad pastor a church up in the Seattle area, and it was during that time that I readjusted my original dream and began writing novels. Well, obviously, that worked out and became my prime ministry and career. Now that three of my stories have been made into films -- Hangman's Curse, Tilly, and The Visitation - I feel a clear calling from the Lord to return to my original dream and try my hand at writing and directing a motion picture. I feel somewhat like Abraham must have felt, launching out in a certain direction not knowing my destination, but I feel the calling clearly and I'm going to see it through. If I succeed, great! If I fail, at least I will have tried. My whole life has been a series of tries, I've won a few, I've lost a few, but that's what life is all about.
A few scattered thoughts:
For those of you interested in videos or audios of some of my most popular talks, please visit Compass International at compass.org. It's run by my old buddy Bill Perkins and they have an entire catalog of some of the finest Christian speakers in America today... uh, myself included *chuckle*. I'll try to get their link included on my link page. I'm still figuring out how this web page stuff works.
For those of you who want to become writers and are looking for help and direction, you should definitely check out Jerry Jenkins and the Christian Writers Guild. They have some great programs going and some marvelous resources.
OK, Barb just got back from walking our two dogs, so I'm going to chase her down and give her a kiss.
Later bye
